There are superb possibilities for day trips to surrounding areas:

Imperial town of Bamberg with its cathedral

Bamberg with its beautifully historic city center that has been listed UNESCO world heritage site since 1993 is just 10 km away and can be easily accessed by bike via the Maintal bike path.

There is much to see in Bamberg, notably the Old Town Hall, Bamberg Cathedral, the old and new residences of the bishops and the brewery museum.

Further towns and cities

The interesting Franconian towns of Nuremberg, Coburg and Würzburg are also not far away and always worth a visit.

Hot Springs Bad Staffelstein

Relax and rejuvenate in the Obermain Therme, literally “upper main thermal hot springs”, in the Adam-Riese town of Bad Staffelstein just about 30 km down the road.

Vierzehnheiligen

Close to Bad Staffelstein you can find the famous pilgrimage church Vierzehnheiligen, literally “fourteen saints” and the former Benedictine monastery now known as Banz Abbey.

Franconian wine country and Steigerwald natural park

Enjoy the renowned pleasant  Franconian wines in one of the quaint inns called “Heckenwirtschaft” in the nearby wine growing area of Mainfranken or in the Steigerwald natural park, where wineries serve food and their own wines during certain weeks of the year.

Franconian Switzerland

This popular tourist retreat offers plenty of attractions including numerous stalactite caves, countless hiking paths and rock climbing options.

Fun parks

Younger visitors will be thrilled by the nearby amusement parks in Geiselwind and Castle Thurn or the Nuremberg Zoo.

Swimming possibilities

The surrounding outdoor swimming pools or lakes are great places to cool off on a hot sunny day.

Beer gardens

Franconia is particularly famous with beer and “Brotzeit” (savory snacks) lovers for its many beer gardens, also known as “Bierkeller” in Franconia.
