At the World Beer Cup, the largest and most important beer competition in the world, the Weiherer Rauch from the Kundmüller brewery was awarded the silver medal. For Roland and Oswald Kundmüller and the Weiherer team, it is the most important award ever.
All in all, more than 10,000 beers from around 2,500 breweries from 57 countries entered the competition in Minneapolis, USA. In the Rauchbier category alone, 100 beers competed for a medal. 103 different styles of beer were each awarded bronze, silver and gold and there were only 11 German medals. “We are incredibly happy and very, very proud. Getting a medal among so many beers is extremly difficult. That means a lot to us,” says Roland Kundmüller about the success.
American friend and collaboration partner Matt Cole from Fat Head's Brewery in Ohio was present at the ceremony and called the owners at 3:30 a.m., German local time, to break the news. “At first, falling asleep again was out of question,” remembers Oswald Kundmüller, grinning.
In addition to the World Beer Cup, there was also other good news for the Kundmüller brewery. At the Meininger's International Craft Beer Award, the Weiherer beers won a total of 12 medals, including Doppelbock of the Year for the Weiherer Rolator.
