Our "Summer" is Session Ale of the Year

Created on Jun 2, 2021

The Kundmüller Brewery was successful at the Meininger´s Craft Beer Award Mai-Tasting: the Weiherer Summer Ale wins a Gold medal. And so it is not only one of the best summer beers in 2021, but was also ennobled with the title “Session Ale of the Year”.

“We are very proud that the competent jury honored our creative approach and especially the tasty result,” comments master brewer and owner Roland Kundmüller the award. The Weiherer Summer Ale is part of the special brew series in which the Weiherer brewing team likes to jump out of the box of the Franconian classics. Seven varieties of hops and four different malts are used for the top-fermented beer specialty. "Exactly this mixture, dosed with a sure instinct in the right proportion, ensures the fruity-hoppy character and summer-like slim body," adds his brother, beer sommelier and owner, Oswald Kundmüller.

In addition to the Session Ale of the Year, the Kundmüller Brewery also won two other medals in the MCBA May Tasting. Wheat beers were also tasted, which - of course - should not be missing in the Weiher range. The Weiherer Weizen Hell, a traditional classic, was awarded the Gold medal for the second time in a row. The Weiherer Hopfenweizen, cold-hopped-fruity special brew received the Silver medal.

There couldn't have been much better news alongside the reopening of the Weiherer beer garden. No doubt, the three winning beers can be enjoyed as well as the almost 30 other classics, specials, organic and solar beers, accompanied by Franconian snacks and home-made specialties. "We are now looking forward to what will hopefully be a long beer garden season," concluded Oswald Kundmüller.

About Meininger’s International Craft Beer Award:

Meininger‘s International Craft Beer Award was launched in 2014 by Meininger Verlag. Until 2020, the competition took place once a year, up to 1,200 beer specialties from all over the world were blind tasted by almost 100 national and international beer experts.

With the realignment to a monthly, topic-specific tasting format, the competition guarantees an even more detailed and now also seasonal beer specialties tasting and assessment of the beers submitted by a recognized jury of experts.
