11 medals at the Craft Beer Awards

Created on Jun 18, 2019

Great excitement at the award ceremony of Meininger’s International Craft Beer Award in Neustadt an der Weinstraße: Roland and Oswald Kundmüller went up on stage to receive no less than eleven medals, including two special platinum awards for the Weiherer Bock and the jointly brewed Weiherer/Cervejaria Bamberg Rauchbock (smoked bock beer). “The outcome is simply overwhelming. Now we’ve just got to work out where to hang them all,” said the owners, grinning.

1,229 beers from 31 countries competed for an award at the 6th International Craft Beer Award. This year, 250 breweries entered their products. The variety of beer styles covered 74 categories, ranging from barrel-aged beers, IPA, pale ale, pale wheat to freestyle beers, pale Pilsner, Kellerbier (which literally translates as “cellar beer”), and export. A jury of 93 from 13 countries, including brewers and beer sommeliers as well as experts from research and teaching, spent two days tasting and evaluating the entries.

“The award winners reflect the entire spectrum of beer varieties. A true showcase of the art of creative craft brewing,” said beer expert and Meininger’s Craft Beer Award board member Benjamin Brouër during the award ceremony.
